An inn, a river, and four plantations
– an exhibition about Hovborg and the people, places, and events that have helped shape the village over time.
Hovborg has been – and still is – an important hub for both people and events, dating back to when the village consisted of just five farms surrounded by vast heathlands, sand dunes, and oak thickets.
Hovborg Kro has served as a gathering place for cattle drivers, travelers, and the local community for many years. The village’s strategic location by the Holme Å river has made the river valley the lifeblood of the area. Over the years the Holme Å has provided power to the fields, offered rest for cattle along the way, and supplied energy to the mill, power stations, and fish farms. The river’s importance to the village’s development, history, and recreational purposes is still visible today, with the beautiful nature of the river valley attracting both residents and visitors.
The surrounding plantations that stretch around Hovborg have not only been crucial to the village’s growth and development but have also played a central role in Denmark’s history. They symbolize the forward-thinking efforts of the past and may perhaps play a role in solving today’s biodiversity and climate issues.
The exhibition also sheds light on the people who have lived in and created Hovborg. Their daily toil, strong solidarity, and perseverance have shaped the village and created a social sustainability that still characterizes the local community. Looking to the future, it is precisely this community spirit and sense of responsibility that will ensure that Hovborg continues to be a vibrant and sustainable village in Denmark.
